Gratitude Journal in a time of crisis
Have you heard of a gratitude journal? Are you keeping one? If not, why not?
A gratitude journal in a time of crisis may seem like wishful thinking. How can I be grateful for fear of catching a deadly disease? Grateful for job loss or reduction in hours?
That is why NOW is the perfect time to start a gratitude journal if you don’t have one. It is also the perfect time to keep writing if you do have one.
Regardless of what is happening in the world around you, there is something you can be grateful for. Think about it.
If you are healthy and still working, BE GRATEFUL. Write it in your journal.
If your family and friends are safe and unaffected by COVID-19 BE GRATEFUL. Write it in your journal.
If your financial plan is still in place and slowly improving, BE GRATEFUL. Write it in your journal.
Every day you are alive and healthy is a GREAT day. It is your choice how you choose to view the current COVID-19 crisis.
- With fear and trepidation expecting the world to end.
- Or with respect and gratitude that you and your family are ok.
So do not despair and start finding 3 things each day to be grateful for and write them in your journal. They don’t have to be big things.
In the beginning, you might be depressed or worried over the pandemic, and writing that you are grateful that the sun came up this morning is as good as it gets. Over time you will find that your mood improves and what you are grateful for also changes.
Do not despair. Things are improving. Vaccines are in the early stages of being tested and before long there will be less to fear from COVID-19.
However, as with any disease, you should still be vigilant about maintaining good habits.
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow if you feel a cough or sneeze coming.
- Work from home, if possible, or call out sick if you feel sick to keep from spreading what you have to friends, relatives, and co-workers.
I believe in you!
